Yan Lan is a household name in China, and is recognized as a leading broadcast journalist and media entrepreneur. She is Cofounder and Chairperson of Sun Media Group and the Sun Culture Foundation. Sun Media Group is one of the leading private media companies in China with business including TV production, integrated communications, and events. The Sun Culture Foundation is a non-profit organization aimed at improving education and promoting philanthropy.
Yang Lan graduated from Beijing Foreign Studies University with a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature, and became a household figure in China by hosting CCTV’s “Zhengda Variety Show.” In 1994, she attended Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and earned a master’s degree in International Affairs. Upon returning to China, she created her signature show “Yang Lan One on One” for Hong Kong based Phoenix TV. “Yang Lan One on One” has become China’s longest running in-depth talk show, gathering more than 600 interviews with leaders from around the world.
In 2000, Ms Yang and her husband Dr. Bruno Wu launched Sun TV, the first satellite channel in Greater China.
In 2005, she launched “Her Village”, a popular talk show geared toward an urban female Chinese audience, which has developed into a multimedia community dedicated to empowering women. Her companies have published almost 200 books to date including “The Last Oral Recollections of Chen Boda”, “The 50-Year History of Secret Cross-Straits Emissary”, “Marriage of a Century”, “Biography”, “Her Village”, “Yang Lan One On One”, “A Question Opens a World”, and “The Happiness Project.”
